Ch. 12 Lies and Cheerios

Ch. 12 Lies and Cheerios

A Chapter by theladygraceling

He walks around the kitchen
swinging open cabinets
and shutting everything with a bang.

He's too loud,
too fast,
and too rough.

He says
and pretends
that he's okay.

But I know
that as much as he wants to be,
he's not.

I don't say anything.
I just watch him.

Swing.
BANG!
Swing.
BANG!
Swing.
BANG!

Finally, he stops.
There's a box of Cocoa Krispies
right in front of him.
His very favorite.

He stares at it for a long while,
then knocks it out of the way
and picks up a box of Cheerios,
which I know he loathes.

But he'd rather have something he loathes
over his favorite
because we both know
it was her favorite too.
