Ch. 42 Hear Me Cry

Ch. 42 Hear Me Cry

A Chapter by theladygraceling

I sit up
g  a  s  p  i  n  g
for breath.

I look around, frightened
because it feels like I'm there,
back in the car,
screaming Charlotte's name.

But I'm in my room,
sitting on my bed,
on top of purple sheets and stuffed animals.

Not in a car,
sitting on cold upholstery
with a seatbelt
digging into my neck.

It's dark outside
and my clock says it's
2:37 in the morning,
so it's a good thing
that I didn't wake up screaming
this time.

But it feels like
I can't breathe.
I'm trembling and sweating,
and my chest is starting to hurt
where I broke my rib.

I wrap my arms around myself
and fall back down
onto the bed.

I still see her face
in the back of my mind.

I still feel her blood
dripping onto me.

I still hear myself
vainly screaming her name.

I curl up under the blankets
and, without wanting to,
I start sobbing.

And I can feel it
shaking the entire house.

I feel for Riley. I just want to go through my screen and sit on the edge of her bed and be there for her quiet and let her know that she isnt alone. You wrote her Pain so well. very good its really believable
