Writer's Lament

Writer's Lament

A Poem by Amelia Lawrence
"

My ode to myself

"

You cannot write worth a damn,

and sometimes your characters come off disjointedly speaking

the same nuances reign over and over

the pages of your texts.

Sometimes I say these things, alone, to myself.

I must confess.

There is beauty in my irony,

a debonair air in the way I think,

but sometimes I put pen to paper,

and my consciouness blinks,

says things I wish it wouldn't.

and changes the original idea.

I lament my own broken heart,

my writing, my original art.

my poetry always is better in my mind than on paper, but if you have suggestions, please review. I would love to make it better. Thanks

This is a riot Amelia...I wish I didn't have to review works that either made me scream out to the author that is was: infintile, cliche ridden, woefully grammatically incorrect...or just plain boring!!!!
(Of course...I always think that of my own work too!!!)

But I don't have the heart to say these things...so I just mouth platitudes in most cases. On the other hand, when I do find a work that moves me...I ALWAYS say so. If there are inconsequential errors in syntax, I might counsel a young writer about that...but I don't have the courage (nor the incllination) to go further...coward that I am!!

Loved this!

I now that feeling. :) We should start a club. WBA Writer's Block Anonymous. I could pen our charter but I'm stuck as what to write. ;) Good work.

I enjoyed this and related. We are out harshest critics, quite oft. It's an honest but slanted view of ourselves. ;0)
