My Reality

My Reality

A Chapter by therisa
"

The religious ignorance that many, in the LGBT community face.

"
One doesn't choose
To be born
As a transsexual
Or love another woman.

Rather
The results
Of genetic mutation
And hormonal flow
During gestation.

I respect your right
To disagree
With hard science.

But
Your type of thinking
Using religious quotes
To attack me
Won't work.

Been there
Experienced it
Got the quote lecture t-shirt.

And people wonder
Why the LGBT community
Has a high rate of suicide attempts
And mental health issues
With depression and anxiety.

When facing
This type of response
From love ones
And close friends.

Never mind
Total strangers
Who don't know squat
About you.

Or the struggles
You have faced.

I'm not asking much
Just equality
For everyone.

Where people aren't judged
In a discriminating way
By their sexuality
Skin colour
Or religious views.

That's showing
True love towards everyone
Which you profess
Is the core of your religious views.

Even
When you disagree
With them.

Forgive me dear Therisa - I know you've always been honest with who you are - I just never registered til now your attraction to women. This adds another layer to the complexity of your situation and now I understand even more the angle of the uphill path before you - and why you struggle with the things you do.
You know my faith - its never been hidden from you - and just to encourage you in your day to day - I am your friend. Simply your friend. Here to listen. No other agenda. We do exist. No matter who we are - what we face - how we identify - we all need other humans. that's the bottom line. I need other humans. Know that I am always hoping for that day when you can have joy. Pure, simple joy. You are dear to me. I wish we could just sit and chat over coffee. I think that would be awesome.

I hope your strength helps others dealing with such issues. I have a question -- just curiosity: your gender identity is a woman (albeit born in a male body); but, your attraction is to other women? I knew a transgenders in college, but their attraction was for the opposite gender of their gender identity.
