Blast From The Past

Blast From The Past

A Chapter by therisa
"

Reflecting back, on the 1980s, as the result of finding an compilation CD of rare 1980s tunes.

"
A chance find
Among life's debris
Of forgotten memories
And dreams.

When life appeared
So much easier
To understand
And live.

As the CD spins
Backwards
Into a time tunnel
To another era
And time.

Where the rules
Were different
More flexible
Becoming a fusion
Of new and old.

Openly challenging
What it meant
To define
One's sexuality
And gender.

In a way
Never experienced
Before
And never will
Again.

Pushing for equality
As thousands die.

While
The world watched
In horror
And shock.

Whose echoes are
Still heard
Today.

Author's Note

therisa
Wish, I could say, I had to courage to come out, during the 1980s, to my family, but I was facing major abuse issue, with my family and other kids, in the neighbourhood. But, I do remember, every chance, I got, I would walk around the house, on the ball of my feet, like I was wearing high heels.
