Escaping Life

Escaping Life

A Poem by Cindy Marietta
"

Something new

"
Each day and night
is a constant struggle.

A battle between

the devastations of consistently being disappointed by
the truth of the reality in which we exist,

and the fantasies we develop in our minds
to indulge in a paradise which fits our unique mold,
a muse to a deceitful hope
that some day we may live the life we want.

Exhausted by the f*****g dishonesty we all contribute to,
debilitated from the cruelty we inflict amongst others
and ourselves,
we are desolate to the lives in which we were given.

So, here I stand,
longing to go to sleep every night.
From the time I awake, I only want to slip away again.
Escape the madness that has become my existence,
and vanish to the place I belong.

It seems as though my life is the fiction tale,
and my dreams are the truth.

I do not want to die,
I just never want to wake up.

I can totally relate to this one.. At one or the other point in life, we all will have trouble dealing with what life throws our way. Things get out of hand. We would want to run away.. escaping reality.. Run to the place we love.. Chase our dreams, even when we know that they will come crashing down one day and we will have to accept this harsh reality.

"It seems as though my life is the fiction tale,
and my dreams are the truth." - I wish this was true.

"I do not want to die,
I just never want to wake up." - Oh.. Life will give you a 110V jolt and then suddenly will wake up to f*****g madness.

Good write. Neatly penned :)

Thanks! Im glad its relatable
It seems you wrote this one whilst a serious crisis was on in your life. Or maybe not, but the quality of the poem is so fine that it makes me believe that. I can almost feel what you want to convey, and i really do like poems which focus on the idea rather than fancy language. Though, Don't mind, I feel that it'd have been better if you made it longer..Because the fun is just a handful lines long..I really wish to see more melancholy poems from you, because you do write well. :-) Best of luck.

I enjoyed this poem very much. Very powerful. It has a universal appeal, and that makes it very sucessful. Nobody enjoys getting out of bed and leaving their dreams, unless of course you have nightmares. Finding value in our existence can be daunting, but never give up the good fight. You're much more valuable than you could ever imagine. Keep writing.

Hard to move sometime. But we must. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

powerful writing here, hits on some elephants in the room, the battle we face in this age of the real and unreal, how we can become the greatest con but also the greatest connection depending on perception. I can relate to wanting to exist in the realm of dreams, to exist in that comfort...you got me tangled in thought like a Philip K Dick novel, existential, space, what constitutes reality...imagine you created a character that was faced with these mental dilemmas, would be intense...
