A Wilting Mind

A Wilting Mind

A Poem by Cindy Marietta

I didn’t understand the way I felt.

So I bought a plant.

A plant whose soil

hasn’t seen water in weeks,

or more like months and

the more it wilts the more I begin to understand.

There is still one leaf growing towards

the sun but

if life isn’t giving you enough water

why don’t you just let yourself

die.

In some ways cruel, but in other ways, somewhat saddening, like wounded wolf growling.

Why!? Because it is nature giving the plant just enough water to try and live and to bring life back to the plant it is attached to.

In darkness and light you are ever observant, a heartbreaker of absurd existentialism. You may not get nourishment where you are, so uproot, follow the sun and the water to something greater and more satiating.
