Hate

Hate

A Poem by Ricky Campbell

Hate, hate, hate

Why do we tend to hate?

Why do we go to war instead of acting civil?

Why do we kill to tell others not to kill?

Doesn't that contradict everything?

No, because we are America home of the corrupt

Who was once split in half over a topic so absurd

Is it ok to treat a human being like a piece of property?

For a long time, all mighty American and the rest of the world said yes

This was a Democracy, the best government of all!

The government was shoved down everybody's throats

Not only everyone in our country, but in countless others too

And we act offended when other countries try to act like we do

Most of our citizens are too stupid to realize how we act

Claiming we do it for justice! Since when is killing just?

We kill the same people we are trying to save

And when they fire back, we release a rampage

Remember those pieces of property?
Well now one runs our country

A black man as president whose goal is to set a

New precedent of living for a country so blatantly corrupt

Trying to grab our economy and pull it back up

Ignoring all of our ugly history and looking forward

If we should give someone respect, to him, it should be toward

Hi! This line: "Claiming we do it for justice! Since when is killing just?" - Powerful! I think everywhere in the world we have these issues with the government. Great topic! I suggest adding more uncommon words, but overall good. Nice contemporary style of writing. Keep it up!

Wondering what the actual meaning of justice comes down to? Doing justice to a particular nation or to humanity. The title of the poem is brilliantly selected. :)

Ricky, I served in the US Navy way back when and am still proud that I did. That does not mean, however, that I disagree with your position. I'm sure you've heard the expression 'Ugly American?' A simple way to sum it up is this: when foreigners visit the US we expect them to speak English; when US citizens travel abroad we expect the foreign citizenry TO SPEAK ENGLISH! In a perfect world there would be no nuclear weapons. But how, then, does the US govt. expect to be entitled to tell any other sovereign nation that they CAN'T HAVE NUKES when the US has thousands of them? Democracy is, theoretically, a good system, but capitalism? It works via the Golden Rule: those who have all the gold get to make all of the rules. We have a governing body (Congress) who can't agree of what to have for lunch, let alone on a bill that would benefit the country. Instead nothing gets done. One party, be it Republican or Democrat, comes up with an idea so great it would solve many of our problems, but the other party, be it Republican or Democrat, cannot support it because it wasn't THEIR idea. How f*****g corrupt is that? I'm hoping against hope that your generations leaders will make bold and beneficial changes to get America back to a respected, instead of reviled, nation status. Great write, and it is great to see someone your age so socially and civilly aware. take care...dan
