When You Can Then You Will

When You Can Then You Will

A Poem by William Maisonave
"

An Interpretation of Love

"

When you can speak to me

without moving your lips

Tell me all I need to know

with a glance

or simple shake of your hips...

When you can share with me

those things no one else know

The silly, embarrassing secrets

too revealing

     to have ever been told...

When you can endure me

more than only a few hours a day

Respect the differences between you and I

And still

     care for me anyway...

When you can come to me

with all your burdens of the heart

Trust me, confide in me

Allow me

     to play my part...

When you can forgive me

whatever harm I may have caused

Hold us to a higher degree

even when we both know

     I'm the one who's wrong...

When you can truthfully miss me

only hours after I'm gone

Hungrily hold me when I return

because even hours

     seem too long...

Then you will know

what it is to be in love

Two hearts co-existing

apart

     yet beating as one.

You have confessed the sweet song of love that so many will never truly know... the loving, life fulfilling expressions that bring out the colors and light to fill the darkest world.

Beautiful structure and rhyme scheme. Delicate and elegantly executed. It echoes, you know, "that" Kipling poem, lol... I'm guessing on purpose :p Very classic.
Great sentiments too, romantic but not sloppy, these are beautifully thought out, concise, neatly expressed little verses. This is just textbook romantic poetry, understated, not overdone or sickening at all, just tender and elegant and dignified. This is absolutely A1 writing!!

Beautiful. Perfect interpretation, and you're right, the only question is when.
