key card to my heart

key card to my heart

A Poem by Taylor Lane
"

my heart is a hotel, but never a home

"
My heart is but a hotel and never a home
People stay for a while but they always go
in me they reside for a small temporary fee
most of the time its to say they love me
but with rooms to rent for the hour, no one longs for me
cheap and easy, i crave somebody to hold me
so when someone books me for more than one night
feelings stir within me, those of both hope and fright
for rooms long lived in, take on the shape of those inside
my sheets smell of you and your polo cologne
just for a second you felt right at home
but when your rent was over
you handed me back the key
and just like the others you decided to leave
empty and barren, my heart a mess once again
your bed left unmade
sunlight blocked by curtains
the remnants of you left completely untouched
hoping you would return
and clean your mess up
the mess in your room and the mess you made of me
my heart is a hotel but never a home
i thought you would stay but you chose to go
in me you reside for a small temporary fee
all that i charged you was your love for me
but you rented by the hour, and never longed for me
i was so cheap, so easy, so you clung to me
you held me like so for a couple of nights
as they days continued passing, feelings took flight
the room that you stayed in, felt warm just like you
your cologne lingered there, much longer than you
i fooled myself for a home where someone could stay
just like that it was over, and you had gone away
i break every key
and i slam every door
my heart out of business
closed forevermore
