Fragile Connection of Us

Fragile Connection of Us

A Poem by The Violent Wolf
"

the end of another relationship

"
You're angled away from me,
No eye contact, no sound.
You don't hear me,,
You don't see me,
Or maybe you just won't.

I'm screaming in the middle of the woods,
But your snow is muffling all of my words.

Each passing minute is a step you take away from me.
Each tear sliding down my cheek leaves a crack.
A crack,
A fissure,
A split,
In the fragile connection
Of us.

What happened to us?
Maybe there was no us.
There was just you.
And then there was me.

What happened to you?
You stopped talking, as if you ever did.
"I love you" wasn't enough,
Where were your other words?
You saw right through me,
But refused to look.

What happened to me?
My eyes were not red enough,
My throat was not sore enough,
My words were not clear enough,
My tears were not loud enough,
No matter how many you wiped away.

Push came to shove and now,
Now that you're looking up at me,
Tell me what you really see.
Tell me what you really hear,
Now that I'm no longer there.
