A Bolt Out of the Blue

A Bolt Out of the Blue

A Poem by D. Pesek
"

This poem will be published in the latest edition of "A Celebration of Young Authors" this fall.

"

Dawn, breaks the new day,
The sunlight it brings, is oh but a ray,
Steadily, it grows, into an orange hue glow,
Morning is upon us, nature’s firework show.

As the room breathes in, the heat of the sun,
All evidence of night, has already run,
I gaze through the panes, of the aqua clear glass,
Morning dew rests upon each blade of grass.

As I take it all in, and watch day spring to life,
My ears are stricken with frightening strife,
Explosions resound with a thundering roar,
Planes fly above, I watch from the shore.

Thick plumes of smoke, as dark as can be,
Towering above, as if ships’ sentry,
But oh the irony, for that’s not the plight,
These clouds are a breach of all that is right.

A bolt out of the blue, an attack from the sea,
Thousands left dead at the Pearl Harbor tragedy.

Well done. I saw the change as the poem progressed, but I didn't see the Pearl Harbor connection until the end.
