Dance of the Dandelions

Remembering, not so long ago,

we were golden in our cheery glow.

All, turned fuzzy and grey today.

Now the children come along to play.

~*~

Fertile green expanse beckons to me.

Tendrils roundabout carry aloft.

Picking a shady spot, neath the tree,

snuggling in the lawn so warm and soft.

~*~

A billion blades surround and protect.

All the same height when standing erect.

Cozy me in this green bed we lay,

we are growing taller every day.

~*~

One fine morn, I hope to spread my arms,

while parting shoots and supplest blades,

to bask in the warmth of Sunny’s charms.

Soon my head will rise above the glade.

~*~

Today, I’m here and standing so tall,

counting my brothers and sisters too.

With each breeze we gyrate one and all.

In unison, we dance just for you.

~*~

All to soon, autumn shortens the day,

all our golden heads will turn to grey.

Old and tired, one more chance to sashay,

when the children blow our seeds away.

~*~

dandelions, like life...ephemeral...
the yellow reminders on the green lawn of our summer....that fall is just around the corner...and our winter will be coming...and the youths remind us older folks....as they frolic on that lawn...looking for four leaf clovers and blowing the dandelion's petals into the wind.

I absolutely adore dandelions, and you captured them so perfectly here. There's something about them that's so magical, that you managed to write down. How you did it? I don't know, but you did! The words are detailed, gorgeous, and breathtaking even. Thank you for entering the contest and writing this masterpiece.

Hi Pryde.
Good to see you.
Thank you for these kind words.
This poem moves fluidly and is indeed very moving as the imagery is so touching and intricate. The way the dandelion's narration is able to resonate with the human experience is incredibly powerful. The way you describe the fleeting existence of the flowers yet were able to create a sense of warmth is also beautiful as it allows us to recognise the beauty that is found with the passing of time. I truly loved your poem

Well, we all know impermanence flat sucks, don't we? Still, the work has good rhyming and does make the sound point that we should celebrate and enjoy our time here while we can. For the winter cometh.
