The Cardinal

The Cardinal

A Poem by Amethyst Rose

Soft wings, flapping gently

Behind the coldness of steel bars

Yearning strongly in her fragile chirps

Glassy eyes, so eager for freedom

Vertical bruises beneath the crimson

The familiar sound of snapping wings

Breaking bone to break free

A foreign world feeling closer than home

Such silence in tear-less hopelessness

So much quiet in a broken heart…
