Letter To Priya

Letter To Priya

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

Words to my daughter

"
                                               Letter To Priya
I know you're sad sometimes,
And words ring hollow,
Even from those you know love you,
Life is strange and unexpected,
There's no handbook and no manual,
And most likely it would be in a foreign language,
If it existed.

But you needn't worry little one,
Life could never,
Wear down a spirit as strong as yours,
Or a  heart as big as yours,
Or ever dull a smile as gorgeous as yours,
So if you're tired take a rest,
If you need to talk talk to me.
You'll make mistakes ,
But that's how you learn,
You'll have your heart broken ,
But you'll find someone,
Who'll help you mend it,
Because life is hard,
But it can be so great and you will hold it in the palm of your hand.

reading simply takes the breath out of me .. i raised my children (2 boys and 2 girls) by myself as their mother died at a very early stage of the game .. a long time ago now .. but even now (children all grown and with their own families) i can see their mom saying just this thing ... your poem .. and these situations do continue sometimes .. i intend to copy this (with credits due;) and send it to my oldest (a daughter) as i think she will be blessed ... may i?
E.
ps. i think this is one of the best (what i call) prose /poems i have read ... it packs such an emotional appeal .. well done says i!

Thank you very much Mayank :)
I recommend only small tweaks, such as "no handbook or manual", "a heart as big as yours" (I don't think or is necessary here), "If you need to talk, talk to me.", and then split the last line into two segments I think? All in all, this is a great poem for your daughter; and yes, I can see well that it is from the heart. I wish that I had had someone to sit me down when I was younger to tell me these things... not only because knowing that the future had more to offer than I thought would have made it easier to get through... but because it would have made me believe that they actually cared enough to see me for who I was, and to worry about what I was going to endure in life. Your daughter is lucky, and hopefully she knows that.

If ever your daughter feels sadness, she will only have to read this and her spirit will soar. A beautiful poem, so clearly written from the heart and not the least bit 'sappy.'.

Very well chosen words. Quite encouraging.
I didn't find this "sappy", actually its quite realistic.
