Black Tears

Black Tears

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez
"

Inspired by the mourning of students at my high school after the death of a fellow student.

"
The rain pours
And drowns all promise
Through shadows of pain
Behind curtains of anguish

Lightning does call
As thunder does roll
And each falling drop
Are tears never heard

For when all goes black
And soon fades to gray
Us writers attack
And save the dark day

And our ink shall run
Color those tears
Stain the rain
And suppress all fears

'Cause when one does fall
We hang our heads
Lie lowly in shame
And writhe in pity
Say silent sorries
And buried truths
Hope no one hears
What indeed we did lose

And were scared to cry
And let others see
But when tragedy visits
Tears are all that you need
