Bin Laden's Blues

Bin Laden's Blues

A Poem by Vlazuvius
"

As the war in Afghanistan entered yet another year, I contemplated the fact that while I don't agree with terrorism, it keeps getting harded to pity ourselves.

"

On September 11th, my stomach turned
As I sat in front of my laptop.
Was I going all "Patty Hearst",
Muchasened by six years in the trenches
with the Aces of Shock N Awe journalism?

Doubtful.

Reporters cracked jokes about Bin Laden's beard
How do you get Nivea Just For Men in a cave?
Their ignorance seemed to underscore
the thing that had me unsettled
I agreed with most of what he said.

Sad but true.

Not the parts that endorsed Jihad,
His war and our war are still war and war we don't need.
But we ARE the pawns of consumer culture.
And while we don't need to kowtow to Islam
We're fooling ourselves if we think this is all we can be

Consumers

A week has passed and I ponder
conservative journalists compare Bin Laden to liberal bloggers
Is this all just a game of "rock and a hard place"?
My stomach is still turning, in fact churning
Can't we have a world without Al-Queda or Coke?
