A Friend Indeed!

A Friend Indeed!

A Poem by Rania
"

A story of betrayal

"

A friend is a rose in your garden of life

Who stands by you, in all trouble and strife

She lifts your spirits up to the skies

And shields your love from prying eyes

She keeps all ogres and demons at bay

She helps rid the hurdles that fall in your way

She’s always a pillar for you and your man

On her you can count, whatever you plan

I too had a friend, in my heart that I nursed

I wonder forever just why I was cursed

A kinship that felt so tender yet strong

Pray where, O where, did I go so wrong?

For trusting a friend, I paid such a price

Unknown to me, my guy was her secret vice

My back turning, she swallowed him whole

Her treachery so cruelly murdered my soul

Is this your story too?  Or is it just mine?

Should I have trusted, or looked for a sign?

My faith has fallen, sand through sieve

My friend, a viper, I nursed in my sleeve

Wow. I wasn't expecting that ending. I think it's great. Not too long....not too short. Not over reaching with too many $5 words. I like it!

Thank you for looking in Frankie.

It seems you nailed it my friend.. You have touched, well actually more than touched on a subject that will be familiar to many, both here and in the big wide world .. Excellently scripted and more than adequately conveying the essence of betrayal and all the mixed emotions and uncertainties that follow in its wake....

You’re welcome:)
Betrayal hurts, and when it is a trusted friend even more so. The loss of trust that follows impacts on lives. You have conveted your feelings well Rania in your beautifully expressed poem. A pleasure to read you.

The hurt has faded...the marks remain. Thank you Chris
dear Rania, You are a gentle and kindhearted person, someone who doesn't like cruelty and unkindness that's why some people will take advantage of that and use You thinking You are not smart or strong enough to notice it, but they are SO wrong, just because You are a peaceful person it doesn't mean that You are not strong, and just because You have a pure and big heart this NEVER give them the right to hurt You! in fact they don't deserve Your treasured friendship.

As promised, I gotta read this. Well you've perfectly showed things here. My concerns are always for beginning and ending more than the content in between. I love the start of this poem as well as the way you've ended it so beautifully. Claps! and Applaud! Loved the flow!

Good Luck!

Yes much worse for me. Thank you Fran Marie for reviewing so kindly.
When one friend betrays another, it cuts like a knife. After a betrayal such as this, it is so difficult to trust again. The emotions in this are real. The rhyming and rhythm are spot on. Unfortunately, I, too, have had such an experience in my life. Best to move on and remember you are better than this. Lydi**

I’m delighted you graced my page with such kind words. Thank you very much, Lydi.
If you trust people, and end up betrayed, that's your fault for you believed people could be trusted. They can't. They're out for no one but themselves. That's why I have no friends and claim none. You will learn in time like I did that there are no friends in this world, and the people that people ignorantly and foolishly call friends, are mere acquaintances ready to strike like a cobra.

The question to ask yourself now is: will I let them screw me over again or will I go solo? I think I already know the answer, but I'll let you respond or not as the case may be.
