Heartbreak Beach

Heartbreak Beach

A Poem by Rania
"

Still haunts my seaside Saturdays

"

Under a senescent Swahili Sun

The sky, a riot of blue in every hue

White sand by sea is overrun

Its mindless rush brings me to you

The briny wind whips up a foam

As onyx crabs still swarm the shore

And oyster reefs  in coral chrome

While swaying palms weep evermore

In waves as warm as sparkling beer

A yatch of love in sultry creeks

Those nights of barbeque and cheer

Now lost as beryl sea-birds shriek

An ochre dusk just brims more gloom

The ocean hums and breaks my spell

Its surface spun on silver looms

The bay grows dim, the waters swell

My heart a pebble on the beach

Lies broken since you tossed it there

The balm of ‘us’ now out of reach

Our cove of love is dark and bare

•Bahari yangu, make me forget

All pain in this oceanic thrum

The deep-sea din of this sunset

Plays ••ngoma to my soul so glum

•••Upepo wa neema, help me sing

To tunes the marine minstrel strums

••••Furaha furaha,  help me swing

To the beat of pure African drums

Hi everyone, I’m back from an unavoidable business trip to Mbeya. I hope you’re doing well and keeping safe.

Thank you for reading this,
Much love and many fond regards,

Your friend Rania

P.S. The beach described and the artwork borrowed is of the Oyster Bay Beach, Msasani, Daressalaam. This is the beach I owe my finest moments in life to. I hope to breathe my last on this haven some day.

I just had to stop for this poem. You’re so lucky to be near such a beautiful ocean. I hardly get to see it once every few months when I travel to coastal Mumbai. Your description and rhyming is lovely and I am sure such a great place can help us get over any heartbreak. Well done Rania!

Visualized a sea from its golden beach.Your personal experience with this wonderful sea is a priceless lesson for me as it reflected your own culture and environment.

Your poetry invites me to share the peace, colour, beauty of that special place. Few people could or can replicate the visual with such descriptive phrases. they're wonderful: ' The briny wind whips up a foam -
As onyx crabs still swarm the shore - And oyster reefs in coral chrome - While swaying palms weep evermore.. '

I wonder at the change of emotions here and there. Places and music perhaps alter facades merely by a movement this way or that.. and you have, you have.

Breathtaking writing created with such care, even to your Author's note.

Oh My! I'm surprised for more than one thing! first, the way You bonded daily life with Your Ocean, second, the twisted in the fourth verse... then as I read pebble oh... I'm touched so deep... because I used something similar on one of my poems. I dare to say that I ADORE Your last three verses... they stand as a magnificent poem their own, they hum like a song to the hearts... I feel as if I was there with You... my loving Rania🌷

Thank you very much ScriptedSilence ❤️
nice job! easy flow and natural rhyme ... nicely surprised at "In waves as warm as sparkling beer" .. such a common thing amid exotic language and imaging ... vivid contrasting says i .. i feel the pain and sadness more deeply as you paint such a beautiful place with color, sounds, tastes and movement ... forgive me for asking dahlink .... did this wonderful beach play in the background of your heartbreak? none of my business of course .. but reading your Note ... you hold it in high regard and wish to breath your last there .. so I am curious ... at any rate .. great poetry .. beautiful imagery .. sharp use of contrast and truly emotive ... my own "heartbreaks" of the long ago past .. push themselves forward in reading your "Heartbreak Beach" :(

......that is the sound of speechlessness - this poem grabbed me, took me on that ship, and holy kwap it was a wild ride. Beeeeeeee-u-ti-ful!! Your last stanza has some road bumps in the musicality, mainly in Lines 2 and 4, but that's my only critique. This is your bar, Rania. I'm telling you now, this is the poem by which every subsequent piece you write will be judged. This is wondrously spectacular! Poetry in freaking motion! Well done!

This is the best poem of yours I've read so far. I love how you use simile "waves as warm as sparkling beer" (I was just saying I wish more writers here used simile!) I love how you give us a glimpse into your life & the genesis of this poem in your authors notes. Your descriptions are vivid & unique & carry me away to my own private grains of memory sand (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
