Kids in Love

Kids in Love

A Poem by Marissa Torres

We were kids.

Nothing to live for,

but bliss.

I was yours,

and you were mine.

My,

how the times gone by.

We were kids,

Nothing to give but our hearts.

Yours was broken

While mine was chipped.

You still looked me in my eyes and told me it was worth the risk.

We were kids.

Nothing to show,

But our minds.

Yours was rotten.

Mine was lost.

This love was so unkind.

A look back by an older and wiser self on a youthful relationship that went sour. Few details are given, but the feeling is that the fault lay with both parties. The pain appears to still linger. Very sparely and clearly written.
