Boyfien' and Girnfien'

Boyfien' and Girnfien'

A Chapter by Wathanya.5KY3

Monday, June 15th, 14:20

Taylor and I were sitting opposite Ash in her office downtown. We declined her offer to make tea or coffee for us before Taylor started speaking.

Taylor was staring at the ground the whole time they told Ash what happened.

“I understand that you must be feeling shocked and devastated,” Ash spoke up after taking notes on a small notebook she tore off the covering plastic when I said I had a potential case for her. “I will do my best to find out what happened to Kyle.”

“Rob-Robyn,” Taylor shakenly gave me a key with a name tag, “t-this is the k-key to Kyle’s ap-apartm-ment. Can you g-go with her for me, pl-please?”

“Can I go with you, please?” I petted them while also looking at Ash. “I won’t get myself into trouble, I promise.”

“Sigh.” Ash stood up and turned away for a few seconds.

“Ash.”

“Fine,” she turned to my weeping partner, “but who’s going to take them home?”

Monday, June 15th, 15:00

“Please take care of them for me.” I held Sera’s hands and looked into her eyes. “They’re in a very emotional and sensitive state.”

“Leave that to me.” Sera gave me a kiss on the cheek. “Though I don’t think I’ve ever seen them like this either.”

I returned Sera’s kiss and gave Taylor a swift one on their hand.

“Take care, beans.”

“P-Peas,” a trembling voice came from above where my head was, “can you b-book a session with D-Dr. K and ac-accom-company me?”

“Of course, beans,” I gave them a reassuring smile, “not when I’m holding the steering wheel though.”

“Of course not.” They let out a soft giggle.

“I told you you were always charming.” Sera teased.

“And you’re always so sweet,” I opened the driver’s side of my car, “but I really gotta go. Take care, both of you!”

“You know, this wasn’t what I expected before I read your text.” Ash said after I locked the doors of my car from inside. “Not. At. All.”

“Yeah. And I thought dealing with a minority-phobic tenant was gonna be the worst thing that could happen today.”

“Those people still exist?” She probably saw her brains with that eye roll.

“I just met one in flesh, blood, and saliva,” I sighed. “So, where are we going?”

“To Kyle’s apartment.” She took out the notebook from earlier. “Although Taylor had already deducted that Kyle went missing when he was out, maybe there was something they missed. I’m also interested in Kyle’s other partners: Clara and Diana. Too bad Taylor is a solo polyamorist and prefers to not have any contact with their metamours.”

I started my car and keyed Kyle’s address on my GPS.

“From what you know now, what do you think happened?”

By that time, I had already lost her, or more like she lost herself in her very own thoughts. She sometimes looked out the window and scribbled things in her notebook.

The ride was filled with the music I fill my USB with.

I’d only heard Taylor mention Kyle a few times when I ask about their day and it happened to be one of their game dates. From what I know, Kyle is a sadistic Top who usually dominates women with very few exceptions. Taylor was one of those exceptions.

Their meeting story is actually very cute in my personal opinion.

Monday, March 30th, 08:14

Taylor worked at this café chain part-time, and that café was the closest one from Kyle’s new apartment. So, like any sane human, Kyle frequents that café. After several months of accidental eye contacts, smiles, and blushes, one day Kyle came up to them and gave them a card that wrote, “I think you’re cute. If you’re open, my number’s XXX-XXXX.”

They clicked so quickly that two months later they decided to go on a trip together to a tropical beach. However, the start was a little…rocky.

Saturday, May 9th, 13:26 (narrated by Taylor)

“You two mans, so two beds. Why no happy?” The receptionist gave us the look.

I had suspected my gender non-conforming looks would give us a few looks in this conservative region. It just happened to be this gender very-conforming lady on the other side of the reception in the hotel we booked on the phone on our way here. I had been taking hormones for around 20 months, so my voice had already started to sound less like the high-pitched feminine voice I used to have.

“Because I didn’t book a twin room!” Kyle shouted at her. This had been going on for several minutes, and he was starting to lose his patience.

“No no no. No like that! Big bed for man and woman. Boyfien’ and girnfien’ or husban’ and wibe only.”

I gently took Kyle’s hand before it could slam the counter the receptionist was behind. “Let me handle this.” I whispered.

For an anti-discrimination person with anger management issues, Kyle did pretty well in that situation. Taking my advice was arguably one of the best decisions he’d ever made during the short period we’d been dating, or at least it was the one that wouldn’t end up with us sleeping on the beach.

“So, you say no two mans in big bed room?” I turned to the receptionist with an apologetic smile that caught her off guard.

“Yes! Now you understand?”

Understand my a*s.

“Why no two mans?”

“Two mans two beds room ok. Two mans big bed room no ok.”

Geez, woman.

“You see,” I turned around while taking off my backpack, exposing my sweat-dampened shirt (it was a very hot day anyway) and the outline of a bra which was clearly a different color than my white t-shirt, “we no two mans. We boyfriend and girlfriend.”

“Ohhh!” The receptionist covered her mouth. “I very sorry. I change to big bed now.”

“Thank you.” I put my backpack back on. It never felt right to take it off unnecessarily.

“Why you cut your hair short, ma’am? I confuse! You sound like boy too! Tell me fast fast next time, ok?”

“New room, what number?”

I need to tell someone to remind me not to stay here ever again.

“Room 301, ma’am.” I was handed a new keycard. “Thank for stay wid us!”

After entering the new room, which was definitely a single-bedded room, Kyle threw his backpack on the floor before collapsing into the bed.

“Why did you do that?”

“The receptionist was clearly homophobic, and I’d pay to see you smash her face into that counter before she could say ‘no two mans’ again.” I sat down next to the still furious customer. “But this should be our relaxing trip, right? Informing ignorant people about my assigned sex at birth isn’t the most fun experience, but I don’t mind doing it to get us what we need which is a good bed and not some benches that’s covered in sand.”

Kyle sighed.

“You know people will treat you the way you let them treat you, right?”

“I know.” I leaned my backpack on the bed. “I don’t intend to be best friends with that lady, and we’re only staying here for two nights.”

“I mean that would make people think they can treat you like a f*****g doormat!” He raised his voice slightly before taking a deep breath.

“I’m just worried about how you might be mistreated or taken advantage of,” he continued, “but I don’t mean I think you can’t take care of yourself or anything like that. You-You know what I mean, right?”

“I know.” I kissed him on the cheek before taking his hand again. “Let’s go and get some caffeine in our systems.”

“I love you,” he chuckled, “and thank you.”

I had a lot of fun writing Taylor's inner monologue. I'll be having them narrate more often in the future.

I keep thinking how difficult life can be for those navigating the world as non cisgender, non monogamous and non hetero. To which you say Duh! Like, I have always known this theoretically, but this story is making it up close and personal. Which is why we need writers like you. I'm super glad I found your story.

And I'm glad Sera is there to help Taylor. I'm looking forward to seeing how Ash will go about investigating things. I can't wait to start getting clues!
