Insanity Soup (a sestina)   

Insanity is a peculiar state of mind,

a thin line threaded amongst saints and sinners

one prays for glory and salvation,

the other vies for power and adoration

neither practices moderation 

only single minded determination

 

Power is acquired by determination

of will, desire, and a restless mind

it has no use for moderation,

but revels in the lustful passion of those sinners

who offer their undivided adoration

that promises their salvation

 

The righteous and pious seek salvation

with steadfast determination,

admonishing those who seek adoration

from those souls of a weak mind

who swim in mud with sinners

that deny the ways of moderation

 

Religious fanatics don’t practice moderation

they rant and rave about salvation

they preach that born and unborn are sinners

awaiting judgment and a determination

by God that they are worthy and pure of mind,

and willing to yield to him in adoration

 

The corrupted seek adoration

for those that eschew moderation,

are unbalanced and unhinged of mind,

easily deluded into believing salvation

with a steadfast determination,

that there are no saints but only sinners

 

divine madness devours both saints and sinners

into that dark fire of worship and adoration

sealing their fates by a willful determination

to deny and ridicule moderation,

in order to achieve  a sense of salvation

that the illusion of sanity will ease their mind

 

Behold those saints and sinners who denied the ways of moderation

but instead fed on the use of power, glory, and adoration, as a means to salvation

a determination has been made that their delusions come from a poisoned mind.
