(30) Johnny Please Don't Cry

(30) Johnny Please Don't Cry

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs
"

There are those who hide, afraid to come into the light. Bullying is felt but rarely seen.

"

He always was a shy boy
Always found life to enjoy
They picked on him one day
They took his enjoyment away

They would put bugs in his hair
He thought his teachers didn't care
They called him every bad name
Said that being strange was to blame

Hurt him and caused him pain
Pushed him over in the rain
They even spat in his face
Told him he was a disgrace

Johnny please don't cry
I know you just want to die
Johnny I don't know why
It's easy when you try

I wish the bullies would just go away
Leave Johnny alone for only one day
There are too many boys and girls in tears
Too many bullied face suicide these years

Poor Johnny couldn't take any more
Found him hanging from off the floor
Poor Johnny is one of the dead
We should kill bullying instead

Hem... I... Wow, Chris, just wow. How come you know how well to write words, when others barely know how to speak them? It's amazing, really, and I can't seem to find the correct words to describe this. Why bother? You've written it, I've read it, and it's done. I see your point clearly, and, well... wow...

We should kill bullying instead...was a powerful line.

Powerful poem. It kept one reading without any lapses in my attention. It has a strong message which i think is needed now more than ever these days. Bullying is a topic that needs to be well preached. And this piece has done the subject justice! Well done

The bullying has become the most shameful epidemic with the most tragic results. You have said it well. So many have taken their lives and ended all that they could have been. Still others live and carry scars that often change who they might have become. We should indeed kill the bullying.

Bullying, well, what can I say! A hard topic to cover love, and you have done so well! Too many people get lost in that streak of darkness some people can inflict on others, to remain individual and not suffer this is hard.........a great poem, emotively so! xx

Powerfully written straight from the heart. A rallying cry from a great observer and a great writer.

You have it absolutely right! Bullies need to be stopped and taught about compassion, caring and empathy. The bullied need to be recognized, rescued and supported. I hope this brings more light to this topic. Well done, Chris!! :)

You hit the heart of the problem; you speak and absolute truth in this poem. No one ever tries to hit these issues at the heart, we actually do everything to try to avoid the real problem. It's like at Columbine, everyone wanted to blame music and self expression, when the heart of the issue was the kids were bullied since elementary school and couldn't conseptualize any other reality except the cruelty in which they lived. It certainly doesn't justify them, they were monsters, but we need to take responability for the monsters we create and the lives we destroy. Wonderful poem!
