Sixteen Again (2019)

Sixteen Again (2019)

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

I know I won’t ever be sixteen again;

and I know I won’t reach six feet in the end.

But I'll remain satisfied on the inside,

as long as you say you’ll remain my friend.

That’s why I'm speaking in rhyme

now, while I can still remember how.

Let’s not pretend; even the best have an end.

You know well they’ll come a day

when you’ll age and yellow like a paperback page.

But you’ll find that I won’t mind,

as long as your soul refuses to fade.

That’s why I'm writing these lines

now, while I can still remember how.

Because I know someday that, too, will change...

But as long as you aspire

  to be someone I admire,

that devil will never have its day.

Hey, Wesley!

True. Life quality does matter to some of us. I don't get the Betsey Chiffon type who ignores what's in front of her, in favor of being a big, fat pig! Just a thought... Your content mellows my thinking out, as I think about a couple having a few drinks on the porch, or just someone like you doing the same thing...

This is a mellow, yet heartfelt content draft. I kind of like it, but I just can't be sentimentally-toned you!

It is neat work, though...

Very interesting poem. I never want to be sixteen at all again. It was a sweet narration.
