A Satisfied Man (2012)

A Satisfied Man (2012)

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

If you've come to me for empathy for your woes

I hate to say but, I'm not a fan--

As I, who was unhappy as a young adult,

Am now a satisfied man

(it's easy, as long as you understand one thing:

that negativity only begets further negativity)

It's true--We've woven similar stories,

As both of our wrists proclaim

But I promise you this (if anything):

You and I are not the same

(it's easy, once you comprehend one thing:

that the darkness you've seen, you chose to see)

So--

If you've come to me for empathy for your plight

I'm cynical to say but, I'm not a fan--

As I, who have struggled with reality most of my life,

Am now a satisfied man

(it's an ambiguous form of narcissism, I believe:

that so many of us suffer so needlessly)

When you're in the fog you'll only see fog, but as it dissipates all that has ever been there becomes apparent and appreciated.
I'm not a fan at all of folk who have a "woe is me" whining, please pity me, attitude to life. When all is said and done you need to get on with it and make the best possible fist of it cos it's over and gone in a flash.
And then it's the longest sleep....
Morning Wesley, enjoyed the read. Hope you are well
