The Hole

The Hole

A Poem by Joy C
"

August 8 is Taiwanese Father's Day, so I worte a poem for my dad :).

"

In our childhood,
A hole was in the center of
Our family.
Threatening to suck us in,
To Break our family apart.

We tread around it,
On tiptoes.
Nobody acknowledged its existence
As life went on.

Before sunrise,
Job summoned him.
Leaving the house,
He never looked back,
To our sleeping forms

After sunset,
Work filled his mind.
Heading home,
He never looked forward,
To dinner time with us.

My father and we,
Live two separate lives.

Worn out by work,
And the “real world”,
Our teenagers’ troubles are
Ridiculous fantasies,
Elude his imagination completely.

A hole in fabrics
Only got tore larger,
As time goes by.

Where’s the mending hand?
Fortunately, we found it in the end.
Never too late
Love.

Love overcomes everything:
Pride, hardship, and all our differences.

Dad:
We know your sacrifices,
Just to spend more time with us.
And it is paying off,
We are puzzles with changing shapes,
Yesterday, the extra bump flatten
Today, a piece protruded, to fit into another

Like the line on my sister’s card:
“We are family!”
One day, we will fit together to become
The greatest source of happiness
In our lives.

On 08/08, I want to shout out to the world,
“I love my dad!”
And wipes out all the doubts in your mind.

Happy Father’s Day!

Your feelings are strong in this piece. I find poems like this make me very sad, just because there are so many broken families. I come from a divorced family. I've always felt very strongly that the need of a daughter for her Dad is so very important. Our society acts like Dads are hardly necessary. I am glad your family was able to recover from its pain.

I really thought this was just wonderfully written
from heart and the love and admiration you hold for your father
in essence when it comes to family and work, it becomes a task
to remain as family, and I do hope that day will be for always

One day, we will fit together to become
The greatest source of happiness
In our lives.

Very very nicely shared, written so excellenly!!
