Am I a Poet?

Am I a Poet?

A Poem by Jay Ligda
"

OK, I wrote this real quick as I was about to sign off tonight. I started to wonder what I'm doing here. How did I get mixed up with this bunch! LOL!

"

Am I a Poet?

I didn’t mean to
Write those words
But something within
Wanted a voice

Prose was not enough
To paint the canvass
Of your mind
With what’s inside

Rhythm and rhyme
And words of metaphor
They will make it clear
An inner world outside

Am I a poet?
How did I get here?
I’m just a man
That needs to be heard

And so it is with all artists, I think. It's probably just my odd-ness, but I've always been reluctant to claim any title, preferring, instead, that others do that for me. If others call you "poet", then you must be one.

That's what poetry is, to me. Needing to be heard. My poems are written for specific people, and are confusing to anyone else who reads them, usually. Yours are easily understood, though. You ARE a poet.

sometimes ten minutes produces a gem whilst months can be wasted trying to achieve the same effect.
poets write because they are compelled to do so driven by some inner urge I would say you earned the right to the title poet

About
I mainly write as a way to clear my mind of unwanted thoughts. Most of it is too personal or rough to publish here, but here is some that I polished up to share. more..
