The Pink-Haired Girl

The Pink-Haired Girl

A Poem by Cory Firestine
"

Dedicated to Rachel R. who passed 10/8/08. This poem was written the week of her passing.

"

So young, so fragile,

So beautiful, so wild.

Taken oh so soon,

Gone in an instant.

As light as air,

As unmoving as earth.

As unpredictable as fire,

As soothing as water.

What a wonderful presence,

Such an amazing voice.

So much talent in such a small body,

Snuffed out in her prime.

Music sang from her soul,

What a beautiful chord, her spirit.

It is her song, her life, that we remember,

Not when the record scratched to a stop.

There was but one in this world,

A rare, quixotic flower,

The pink one plucked before it's time,

The one who possessed so much power.

Many grieved, many wept,

But we all smiled once we remembered you.

Heard your voice in our heads,

Saw your smile in our minds.

There will never be another you,

Why did you leave so soon?

We will only ever know,

When our day comes too.

You are right for we are all unique in so many ways and once death cuts us off it is hard to replace us or that individual...A great ode to her...:)

Through this poem you have immortalized a person who was already immortalized to those who knew her and loved her spirit and beauty. Now you've immortalized her for others as well. Beautiful poem!

Thank you Karen. I really appreciate your words.
What a beautiful sadness flows through this river of thoughts and feelings.. Made me ache at dear Rachel's passing... and left wondering why as well... Thank you for such a precious glimpse at her life.
