Where Are You?

Where Are You?

A Poem by Cory Firestine
"

This is about the place where I escape to, and get often get lost in. I usually fight coming back from it. I only hope that everyone else has a refuge like this.

"
Where Are You?

"Where are you?"
I'm here
In this chair, in this room
But not here
Though you yell my name in my face
I'm not here, not now anyway

I am lost...

I am lost in my world
My own little world
Full of wonder and light
Full of despair and shadow
Where I am King
Where I am God

I love it

I am who I want to be
I am who I never will be
I am who one can only dream to be
It is a beautiful, wonderful place
A place I always long to be

It is my own world
The one true place in existence that is mine
And only mine
An exotic, one-of-a-kind place

I hate it

For I am lonely, for I am the only
The only person here that is not from me
For you can not be here with me
Can not visit, not really
Not now, not ever

Instead you sit there
In that chair, in that room
As I come back to our world, this world
Full of anguish and heartache
Full of rage and hatred

I love it

For I return to you
In this chair, in this room
To you saying "Where are you?"
"I am here," I say
"Where did you go?"

I do not say

All I do is smile at my return
To you
And we continue to live
Live our simple, boring, but beautiful life
Together

Author's Note

Cory Firestine
A common occurrence that happens when I space out into "my own little world" where all my stories come from, to the point where my partner yells "Where are you?" :-)

Thank you Amy...I'm glad you could relate to this and that you enjoyed it.
I know this world you speak of, it's impenetrable when we're in it's grasp. We need it to get away and revitalize our spirit, then our 'boring' little lives are tolerable and sometimes we even realize, most enjoyable too!

I can completely relate to your poem with the exception that I never really become bitter about it because I allow it to express itself in some fashion in the real world.

Thank you for your thoughts on this Mariah.
This is wonderful, a sense of "be careful what you wish for". It's bitter sweet in the sense of how once someone has what they desire, they grow tired of it after a while. Great read :D

Thanks Elinor for the great words.
I guess we call that a man,s cave here in the south where you have your private room all to your self enjoying your hobbies of course . The chair is a good metaphor too... Well done and conveyed...:)
