Black Widow

 

Black widow weaving her morbid web

                             Glistening gossamer to a gruesome end

Poor victims are drawn to her ugly urge

                              one after one, their death is her legend

 

Her life is a play, the plot is death

                                    attracting a partner to be her prey

Pretence and deceit, her tarnished traits

                                         living by death is her only way

 

She’s a keen killer, never satisfied

                                   ruthless, heartless, and sick in the head

Her list is endless, it grows and grows

                                       leading lost lovers to her barren bed

Author's Note

Although it is a misconception that all male species of the “Black widow” spider end up as a meal after mating, sexual cannibalism has been observed in this species, and other species, including humans, in one way or the other.
