A Heart That Only Felt Hurt

A Heart that only ever felt hurt with love.

I’m afraid

That when I find love,

I’d run away

Because all I’ve ever felt

Were mere tastes 

Of warmth

That I wanted to last;

That when I am finally

Faced with the expression

The feeling, the emotion

Of love,

I wouldn’t recognize it

Rather,

I’d only expect the hurt

And nothing more.

Hurt was all I ever felt with love.

A strong piece of poetry Reese. Expressed with such honest truth. These words I can emphasize with because many a time I feel that is how I choose to see love. I must often try to remind myself that the only thing we can control when it comes to love is how much we are willing to give. We can not control how much we will receive in return. We can on,y hope that it is equal to our own. Believing this helps me be less cynical. CLE
