Beneath Him

Beneath Him

A Poem by Meg

Through his breathless smile, I saw sadness:

More to him that meets the eye,

A sea of grief, there he lies

Might come off a little shy,

Like birds on a window that fly by

His eyes the color of the twilight sky

Before the sun finally sets and dies

Beneath his heart, I saw loneliness:

It thumped and beat, but nothing more

There it beat like a random chore

Might be something worth to explore

Like searching for shells on the ocean floor

Nothing more than he called for

Looking for something on a sandy shore

Through his speech, I heard depression:

May seem happy, but he's not

He needs more than what he's got

His sense of feeling has been shot

His hands not cold, but burning hot

His stomach is all tied in knots

Treat him in ways he doesn't get a lot
