Disappear

Disappear

A Poem by Rayne Stanton

Sometimes I hate myself for the things I’ve done.

Don’t tell me it’s not my fault cause I know that you’re wrong.

I know you entrusted me with your desires for so long,

but tonight you no longer need to hurt my dear,

for tonight is the night I’ll disappear.

Like the breath you breathe out after a long pause,

the snow angels you make before the snow thaws.

An imprint of me, a shadow on your memory.

I can see how you were before you met me,

so please do not fear, tonight I’ll disappear.

Complications were placed even before I touched you,

assumptions were made before I let you through.

Baby, please tell me if I’m wrong, I’m trying to be true,

and I know I may act scared or crazed,

but now I feel myself changed.

Like the breath you breathe out after a long pause,

the snow angels you make before the snow thaws.

An imprint of me, a shadow on your memory.

I can see how you were before you met me,

so please do not fear, tonight I’ll disappear.

Hold me like you never want to let me go.

Whisper to me that you love me despite all that you know.

Kiss me like we could make love all night,

and not have to worry about nightmarish frights.

It’s because of you that I cannot go.

You keep me here beside you and though I don’t know why

I can’t get up, go out the door, or leave your side,

I know I should disappear. I know when I’m not needed.

By everybody but you, I won’t leave unless you mean it.

When that day comes I’ll disappear.

Like the breath you breathe out after a long pause,

the snow angels you make before the snow thaws.

An imprint of me, a shadow on your memory.

I can see how you were before you met me,

so please do not fear, for tonight I’ll stay here.
