Red Dress

Red Dress

A Poem by Isabella Cezanne
"

a poem about admiration and fondness

"
she leaves me
breathless
in a way
i have not felt
in a very long
time

unexpected,
the way the air
leaves my lungs.
like the breeze
brushing past
my cheek

softly, yet all
at once

there was no
violence
in the act,
no forceful or
unwilling exit

what she did to me
was no kick
to the chest

no this,

this was a
quiet departure,
a sigh in
a room full
of people, yet
meant only for me

as if, when she
walked into the room

instead of asking
how she looked
and twirling in
place

she stepped forward
and asked for
my hand

and i gave it
to her
without any pause
for breathing
