The Sin of Progress

The Sin of Progress

A Poem by Secondarily Apocalyptic

Sins, that's what you see yourself as, sins
Crimes you committed in days gone by
Crimes upon which the lord calls fie!
Crimes for which the great one shall forgive you
Oh, how unjust are these crimes you do!

Yet where is the source of these sins you commit?
From where did the judgment come, to send you in the eternal pit?
From the laws of old,
Is where you're told
But from where did these fateful laws come?

Him, that which has lasted eternity
He who makes that which brings you sorrow and glee
The creator of everything and all
The maker of beings little and tall.

But where is the god that you patiently seek?
Where is the world Jesus spoke of, the one inherited by the meek?
Did your loving god forget,
That which he promised you the day you and reality met?

Or has he already granted you that which you seek?
Perhaps he has sent you the savior, mild and meek.
You utter the famous, "Jesus saves,"
To the scoundrel, the sinner and the knave.

Jesus, he who would rid the world of sin.
Look at the earth and tell me, did he win?
In the days when suffering is lord,
Can we really take is word?

Tell me, dearest Yahweh,
Why is it that man has had to find his own way?
Did you not see, was it not part of your plan?
Or was evil too great, so you ran?

Why is it that man continues to progress,
Even when from your way we digress?
Do you not care when the blasphemers go ahead
And make a world in which you are gone and dead?

Evil in your presence, good in your absence,
Why does your word fail to make sense?

Horrid sins, foul sins, whatever shall they be?
Crimes committed against you in the name of humanity?
Fie upon your laws, fie upon your sin!
Man shall make his own way here on in!
