As I put down the Knife

Part 2 of On this warm summer night

Your face is somber,

As I hold you tight,

And cradle you,

On this long, sad night.

 

 

Your breath is slow,

And your tears warm,

For we both know,

In time I’ll mourn.

 

I kiss your lips,

And stroke your hair,

As I pray to god,

He’ll take your hand in care.

 

 

I love you dearly,

And always will,

But no longer are you mine,

For your eyes are still.

 

 

I cry in pain,

And scream with hate,

But I’ve known for long,

To expect this fate.

 

 

As time passes on,

I regain my heart,

And as you asked,

Anew I start.

 

 

I find new love,

Because I am young,

But I’ll never forget you,

And the love of our song.

 

 

At times I miss,

The feel of your lips,

As you’d press them to my neck,

With your hands on my hips.

 

 

But your love I still hold,

And cradle it tight,

As I think back,

To the fight of your life.

 

 

You were strong and bold,

A hero without glory,

And forever on,

I’ll tell your story.

 

 

You died for love,

You died with me,

And now I’m happy,

To see you’re free.

 

 

The pain was harsh,

The feeling cold,

And we both new,

You’d never grow old.

 

But together we stood,

Side by side,

Not willing to run,

Not wanting to hide.

 

 

We fought the battle,

You more then I,

But it wasn’t enough,

For you had to die.

 

 

I’ll remember you on,

And love you for life,

I smile at this,

As I put down the knife.
