Are We Enemies?

Are We Enemies?

A Poem by Stacy Purvis

Liam, I thought we were friends

From beginning to end but

Lately you seem strange and distant

Your kisses don’t taste the same

And you can’t look me in the eye

When you touch those places

In me that only lovers do

Don’t put an ocean between us

Or exile me to an island secluded

In quiet desperation I wait for you

Without hesitation I take you

In the hopes that you and I might be

Allies

Liam, tell me how do you live

With the shadow of her inside?

The bond is broken but yet she stays

Weaving a web to keep you captive

Is there something that I’ve missed?

An elusive last piece of the puzzle

That I just can’t seem to find?

Don’t put an ocean between us

Or exile me to an island secluded

In quiet desperation I wait for you

Without hesitation I take you

In the hopes that you and I might be

Allies

Please tell me this is all my imagination

I want to believe every word you say

It’s getting harder with each and every day

Chase the shadows of the past away

Tell me that you want to be my friend

And not my enemy, and stay, in my heart

Forever….sweet love please stay.

Liam let the ghosts have peace

And come stay with me

I need you in my life

Come please stay

Don’t put an ocean between us

Or exile me to an island secluded

In quiet desperation I wait for you

Without hesitation I take you

In the hopes that you and I might be

Allies

Sweet love please stay…

The sadness and longer speaks very loudly here.

If you are looking for ideas for improvement, I might reduce the number of metaphors and focus on a few strong ones.

For example the spiderweb and island are strong, but the puzzle piece feels out of place.

Evokes and conveys Strong emotion.

Spiritually delicate writing telling a story. Those last four lines are beautiful. I really enjoyed reading this. Nice job

Liam..What have you done?

That's a very good poem, and very meaningful. We shouldn't let people drown us in our own ocean of sadness or put us in an isolated island.
If Liam puts you on an isolated island, make that island a jungle.

I find this one extremely beautiful...Exquisite expression. Rich in imagery. Love the way you started it, it grabbed me by the arm and didn't release me even after the last verse. Keep sharing your art :)
