I'd Dance By Flaming Flowers

I'd Dance By Flaming Flowers

A Poem by Michael Handel
"

I like things that die

"

I'd burn flowers in my yard

if I could only find the time.

They'd soak in gasoline and

be lit, flames rising high;

my gift to the stars.

Fire engulfing, dancing from

bush to stem

this consumption in my yard

my gift to the Sun.

I'd dance with them and celebrate

resurrection. My selection; a waltz-

I'd bow to my yard.

This burning garden...

no blossoms would bloom now, no nesting starlings.

This is my garden. My partner I'd dance with;

its dying in Autumn.

Really interesting piece. The image of watching the fire burn and destroy the plants and flowers is actually quite powerful.

It's the right length, too. You don't waste your words and stick to the moment at hand.

"I'd bow to my yard.
This burning garden..." Is such a vivid image.

Really well written (obviously) and a bizarre yet absolutely captivating piece.

This is such a unique, brilliant piece.
It's odd in a sense but also oddly fascinating.
The image of this in my mind will probably stay with me all day.
Amazing.

I really enjoyed reading this.

this is a unique piece of work. i like how your write in your notes 'i like things that die'. everything dies, so its a part of life. i liked this poem, its dark & wicked. setting your garden on fire & dancing next to it, as autumn begins to kill it anyway, is an interesting concept.

Who doesn't like things that die -- as by default, most things do/will.

This poem was very powerful. I agree with Dawn too, it's just the right length -- not too long, not too short. I always have that problem with my poems -- I don't know how to shut up and they end up like three pages long. You however always seem to know right when to cut them off.

"They'd soak in gasoline and / be lit, flames rising high; / my gift to the stars." How sweet of you. I always thought the stars must get sick of us -- always wishing on them and such.

This is really interesting. I love the imagery, which is always one of my favorite things about your work.
It flows nicely and the last lines
"This is my garden. My partner I'd dance with;
its dying in Autumn."
Are so very powerful.

I am left amazed as always.
