More to Life

I love travel the way some girls love boys.  

While they plan their future weddings and talk about babies, 

I'm dreaming about different places I want to go and the food I'll get to eat.  

They cry when their dream guy turns out to be a fantasy, 

I cry when I see how my young age and responsibilities keep me trapped in this place.  

Me and these girls, we are tied together: by society, by youth, by sisterhood, by a desire to be more than what we are told we are, 

But I refuse to be one of them.  

I won't resign my existence to the only life I've ever known.

  

I will dream big and never give up, 

Because there is more to life than just these four walls.

I can relate to this so much! I've been stuck in a small town ever since I was born, and I cant wait to get out of here! I feel like I've wasted my youth walled into this place, and I can't wait until I go off to college and finally get to start experiencing things :)

Interesting poem. One question isn't a dream guy and a fantasy of one the same thing? So wouldn't they be happy they turned out the same? I also hate four walls if I stare at them too long.

Yes they are similar in that they are dreaming for something that might be too good to be true, but what they are desiring sets them apart (i.e. there is more to life than meeting the perfect man, travel has many wonderful characteristics). Not that there is anything wrong with wanting to find a man, but it is about preference, how you prioritize.

I completely understand how one can feel so different from others, and how they long to do more than the conventional actions. I know how many think girls are defined by one thing, and they only want one thing. It is so hard to break away from this, when your heart longs to travel, to see a world most of your friends will never feel the need to know. Dream on, my friend! The world is yours to explore, if you choose!

You are very wise. I told my children and anyone who is willing to listen. Travel, test life and have fun. We will have 40 years for kids and work. You need to travel and enjoy life when you are young. I enjoyed your thoughts. I hope you travel a millions miles. Take a good camera. I saw 40 countries and took too few photos.
