Moonless Nights

I like looking up at the moon, thinking it smiles back.
Sometimes, I think it does; whereas, other times, it's as if it disappears from the face of a darkening sky, and those are the nights I frantically keep searching for it to appear, for it to watch over me, because, somehow, I've made myself believe it copies me … that it knows and understands whatever mood I'm in.
Also, I like looking up at the clouds forming shapes, engulfing stars, and occasionally the moon, which makes the sky take on the appearance of how my life feels right now: empty, foreboding, overwhelming darkness everywhere, while I seek a way out to embrace breath-gifting, ached for light.
Yet, it seems as though the darkness has penetrated my very mind, causing me to look at the bleak view from a dimly lit window of my soul, where something resides... sleeping, waiting to be awakened....!

You are the first person in my life that expresses this feeling that my moods are mirrored in the phases of the moon! It's like, with a brand new crescent, life seems to have new promise & with a waning crescent, life feels as if it's slipping thru our fingers. I love hearing the details of how this feels from your perspective & your expressions are artful & relatable (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I love this little story of your inner feelings Yumna. From this writing I can tell that you are more awake than you think you are. There is some mysterious connection between the night skies and soul searchers I believe. Enjoyed it very much.

You know, Yumna?
It is rare I will read a story … rarer, still, to review and critique one; however, this wispily spun tale of yours has that certain something that speaks to me in poignant ways, and into even deeper places seldom touched; though, much of your work does that to my senses.
As a lonely person, often sad, I can connect in easy rapport with the essence of your excellently-rendered words, Yumna … so, could be, I'm not so alone after all, eh?
As much as I adored the emotional timbre and ethereal feel you've so skillfully scribed this by, the teacher part of me spots issues (if addressed) might lend it even more palpable appeal … let me know if you'd like my input.
Whatever … LOL! You can tell, I am sure, I'm rather smitten by this one, as Lady Moon, like the restless sea, lures me upward toward her softly-glowing mystery.

Goodness, Yumna!
You sure inspire me to run-on … for which, I most warmly and gratefully thank you! ⁓ Richard : )

Mm, that's a gorgeous picture*

A beautiful poem about the night sky. There's something magical about the moon :)
Loved reading this, Yumna. Somehow this piece felt different. I felt more depth in this piece. Like you actually love the moon. Can't really explain it. But this is one of your best pieces :)

Sounds like me. I grew fond of the darkness, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one seeking comfort in the moon and relying on the skies. Laying my mood and gloominess on the night for it resembles me. It fills me, it pretends to give answers to what boils inside of me...those nights I believe the answers are in the stars, on how to enlighten me, but as I like to quote" The fault, [dear Brutus] is not in our stars, but in ourselves [...]"
Reminded me of it. I love this story. Thank you for sharing a part of myself, I dare to say. ❤

Beautifully written. It's funny how it's true that something you look at copies how you feel sometimes.

Indeed it is..
Thank you for your thoughts and for liking! I appreciate it 😊
The moon, oh that wonderful moon.. can conjure up so many emotions. Am a 'cancerian' too, every night, without fail before turning off lights, I peer up to see what I know is up there somewhere, perhaps peeping down at Humankind from within clouded space.

Your words flow so beautifully, you create pictures from your emotions, Perhaps it's best to always remember that without the moon and sun, we'd not exist but we do, we do.. So, whatever, hold onto that and be patient.. and think of each dawn as being rebirth.

Exquisite sadness: ' a dimly lit window of my soul where something resides sleeping waiting to be awakened.. '

To be a lunatic is not always a bad thing. The beauty seen in the night sky always makes me feel insignificant and small. These were lovely words.
