Being Content (?)

Being Content (?)

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay
"

Ramblings of a confused mind...

"
Life has never been more aimless than it is now. Uncertainty clouds my mind as to how I would proceed.

All our lives, we set goals on what to achieve. A good college degree, a reasonably fitting job, a respectable face to show this so called society. But then what? Does it end, our want of wants and needs constantly littering the backside of our swollen and overburdened mind? I think not... there's always something which keeps us going. 'Cause that's how life is like.

It's those constant needs which make a life 'life'... but maybe we're too in need of the contentment we so lack to realize that life ends when that contentment comes.

We are restless beings wandering this earth.

I am sure we have all though about what you have written in this piece.
Reaching goals - I guess everybody has different ones, some are small, some are big, some don't even have any.But when those reach there goals, and in my opinion: they set the bar higher again and again and again. Basically they keep pushing the boundaries.
Some people don't have any goals at but isn't that just existing and not living. In any case the main thing is - be happy and do things that make you happy.

A very wise piece of writing. Can one ever find contentment? Perhaps the secret is not to have any goals at all. Perhaps we would be happier if we were simply going along a continuum, to an uncertain destination. I like to think of life as a journey, with learning experiences. Then, would us 'restless beings' begin to 'wonder' at this earth instead of 'wandering this earth'? But I do like your idea of the restless wanderer. Lovely piece of writing!

I've had similar thoughts. I'm always working towards a goal or a place in life and that's what gets us up in the morning. But what happens after we get what we want and what happens if the path that we think leads to happiness and then we realize I'm not happy I don't want this.

I perfectly understand the sentiment behind this piece. Read Scenery. But you're young, and you write. Anything done with thought is purpose-driven, even if it seems to lead nowhere. You're never where you were. Looovvee: "constantly littering the backside of our swollen and overburdened mind?" Perfect.

I am of the firm opinion that there is no such thing as a destination. The journey is all. That is where we learn and that is where we always seek contentment.

Ah, yes. There are, until we keep searching.
After nearly 7 decades and all the realities unfolding in each and every decade I now come to the nothing with it's silent breeze and nature filled eyes as the centerpiece of my contentment.

I couldn't agree more!
Us humans, always expect to live for something else, as it always changes... our needs and wants change through time...
Well written Yumna!

' .. but maybe we're too in need of the contentment we so lack to realize that life ends when that contentment comes. '

Serious words at a serious time in your personal life within a very stressful time in history?. What ever your place is, Yumna, it's obvious that sitting still is not the aim, and, yet you're feeling pressured. I don't know. However you feel, you've used fine language.

For me to be in a job i love (would be if i could, health dictating otherwise!), amongst family and friends i love, a roof over my head and a few minor skills, contentment still remains the most important. All the possessions, money and fripperies can be lost overnight. We can't buy contentment any more than we can buy love.

'Restless' varies person to person, some consider it an essential, others become restless even at the thought of the word! Others know that without restlessness one can be considered a failure. But it's not an essential.. If we were meant to dash around all the time, we'd each have been born with an-built motor. Iinstead of that, we have a brain which dictates our choices - to each his or her own. For me, i want to look not merely scan my life and world.

Sorry, am older and wiser than i was yesterday!
Sliding off my soapbox, creeping into the wings, i apologise for saying too much but, you asked for thoughts. :)
