Reputations

Reputations

A Chapter by Dr. YumnaKay
"

Prose poetry. Ramblings.

"
What's real (anymore)
in a near perfect world?

The dampness of the day
overstays its welcome,
amongst snowy smiles which

fail to reach the eyes, while
pretenses are kept and reputations
saved from being tattered.

What's real (anymore)
in a near perfect world?

Closed doors which harbor
sinister beings while cursed,
mangled bodies lay oozing blood,

their stench attracts vultures
in human forms, which feed
upon the innocence lost.

"reputation" almost seems like an extinct idea these days....so much morality is thrown out the window now...we seek for nothing but pleasure and riches...the vultures circle, seeking us...
even with all our technology...apathy seems to be the virus that has infiltrated.

The word "reputation" conjures up negative ideas (for me) about those overly focused on a detached banner that flies over someone's head, describing him/her, rather than having an actual conversation with a person to see for oneself how she/he seems to be. In the end, we can't know anyone. Think how hard it is to know ourselves & how this quest lasts a lifetime. Your poem feels like it's making fun of the idea of being fully known as a human, a spirit, or a soul (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A perfect world? One full of power for the few, greed and violence all around us. There are vultures everywhere feeding off the innocents. Powerful imagery and thinking Dr Y. However I do like the power in your pen :)

I've learned that the most unsuspected ones are the real vultures..or so it seems.

What a lovely smooth flowing write Doc. Yes we are so desensitised by violence and on top of that we have fake news! One of my fav's of yours.

Desensitised is the word, yes! Seems like nothing affects us until we directly experience it :x

I have no idea what is real anymore, at least not in the world those 'reputations,' inhabit, which is one of deceit, lies and more lies in the pursuit of a power that ultimately has no value.

As George Orwell observed, 'power is sought entirely for its own sake, there is no care for the good of others.'

And as for a near perfect world; not by a million miles.

A thought provoking poem.

I completely agree. It does seem hard to trust in things all around.

Such a deeply moving, dark song of life's lingering light. I feel such a contrast here of the world of innocence and the grown world of decay. What's real? The question carried me back too many years to when I survived by escaping myself to enter made up worlds. Perhaps it's still a way to escape that stench.

For some reason I believe this one has political/ economic implications. Can't say exactly why, unless misused power is also implied.
