Once

Once

A Poem by Z.Silas

Once

I remember the taste of her last kiss
the venom, love, hate, and bliss
fate’s cruel twist
her name carved into my wrist
I remember the pain and strife
questioning the worth of my own life
and will I make the same mistake twice
is this hell or paradise
am I praying to gods or parasites
I remember every sin one through seven
the whispers of every good reverend
the lost stars of heaven
and the ashes of nine eleven
I remember everyday painfully clear
every moment soaked in fear
then they said the end is near
and yet...
still I stand here.

A grand "swoosh" thru time/space. From personal to earthly to universal and back again. Read out loud? I enjoy the energy, clarity and immediacy. Rhymes are a good thing.
