mathematically in love

mathematically in love

A Poem by hanford zdeb

i drive as storms build

fractally above the prairie.

on the radio

i hear that mathematicians

are calculating order

out of chaos.

while mathematics create chaos

out of order over head.

i seek

an algorithm for romance.

for love song,

as music is born, lives

and dies numerically.

i return to darkened home

turn on lights

and sit silently in binary.

light on light off.

circuit closed, opened,

black, white.

no fractional

shades of grey.

patterns of ones and zeros

iterating endlessly

as stars in the night sky,

there is dark space, there is star.

repeat.

i can place numbers on us;

days we've been together

homes we've lived in

children birthed,

and i see in the recursion

of the rain

my daily desire to stand

with you

our feet wet,

mathematically in love.
