Our Angry Mother

Our Angry Mother

A Poem by Scirrocco

Today's dark place void of time and space
Humanity's disgrace degrades the earth at an unimaginable pace
All trees' weep now, not just the willows
The skies now look angry
The clouds no longer soft like pillows
Technology steals the soul
Lost to digital cable and video game consoles
An obese generation oblivious
To the flower petals that no longer unfold
How do you feel
To know that she hates us more and more
Because we continue to take without giving back
Therefore our angry mother turns up the thermostat
And the temperature starts to soar
How are we to breathe
When the flora we depend on is gone
And how are we to live
When the suns radiation becomes too strong
Playing with our mothers emotions leads too high stakes
Cancer clusters, High mortality rates
Polluted water and contaminated meat on our plates
Yeah I would say
She has every right to be pissed off
Once warm and loving her hearts become bitterly cold
She now covers our crops with frost
See the lack of respect for nature comes at a high cost
We did this to the earth
And it's such a painful shame
Raping her natural resources
Leaving her once pristine surface scorched and stained
Our degradation of land
Allows fertile ground to be retaken by desert sands
Are we to continue murdering our rain forest
Just to replace them with man
Come on people
The blame lies completely in our hands

I like that you seem to be brutally honest, not hiding or subtly saying who's to blame. You just say "The blame lies completely in our hands" which is sad, but true. The imagery is great. It flows really nicely as well. I could almost picture it being spoken on Def Poetry on HBO.

You need to find a way to send this to Al Gore...you may even become a poet laureate of sorts.

This is a wonderful conservation/accusation poem hitting the nail on the head and driving it straight to the heart.

I'm sure i've reviewed this before but it seems to be missing. However I re-read it today and found it as refreshing and unique as all your writing does to me. I couldn't find (I don't think) a more powerful and succinct description of our desecration of Mother Earth and all her bounties..

Wonderful work... I think you should send this to the powers that be within the Global Warming Fight, I'm sure they'd appreciate it as much as I did :) fantastic work as always. Your one of my favourite writers :)

A tragic and beautiful testament towards the way we treat our planet. We all would love to have a habitable world for our children, children's children and so on to live in when we are turned to dust but few do anything about it, let alone voice a much needed plea. Mother Earth is like any other mother-she nurtures and looks after her children, but when they get out of line, there is a wrath that will come about!

I loved this and as always I love your fast paced way of telling a story. It is so true that we hold everything that happens in our hands and it's our fault if she decided to retaliate. We are so concerned with buying the latest gadget and getting the fastest car that we don't even notice the pain we inflict upon the earth anymore.

There was only one typo that I noticed. You said pedals and it should be petals.

Great write.

Very plainly said, effective imagery and some powerful words. Very well written, well sturctured and stated. This works as is. More artistry could be used to replace some of the plain spoken word here, but you get your point across so well as is.
