The Eyes Have It

The Eyes Have It

A Poem by Zugzwang

Fabric,

Worn to the point of

Translucency,

Shows its weave,

Like a gossamer skeleton.

These empty eyes

Languish, in a

Thousand yard stare-

Inward gazing,

But always

Elsewhere.

always gazing inward for a thousand miles, in my case. :) taking in the external view through the physical eye in order to gain understanding for our internal eye; giving what is intangible or abstract, a solidity and grounding. such a muse brings forth amazing results (and inspires others) as in this work you have written..thank you so much for sharing! Very nice word selection and use. Great imagery causing many memories to flash in my mind. Again short verse and I like it. Thanks,

how strong is our constitution...our real faith in ourselves when we fail...easy to blame others, to gaze elsewhere.

Marvelous piece. Bravo!
Acoustic's comment influenced, by expanding, my read on your piece the second time through.

Some garments are worn to a threadbare state because there may be nothing else to don. Other garments may be worn thin because they are the more comfortable, even though there may be other similar garments hanging in the closet. So, too, with our own experiences.

Additionally, those who may have had to don certain life experiences may be able to appreciate beauty in a way that others, who did not have the wearing of such things, cannot.

Great write, Z.

Inward gazing, but always elsewhere...superb. Maybe the fabric of who we are has stretched and faded over the years, showing too much of the bits we wish hidden, but its still holding, for now. Its sometimes that thousand yard stare that sees the beauty other eyes miss.
