Kite

Kite

A Poem by Zugzwang

A kite without a string.
North wind blows,
Kite goes south.
South wind blows,
Kite goes north.

Fraught,
Intemperate,
Wanting only
To soar.

Glad to see a new piece.
There's almost a freedom in having no string; nothing connecting you to something - or someone - that can alter your course. But it does take work to keep slipping out of that noose. To keep everything a safe distance away. That has its own turmoil, inside and out, which keeps it from truly feeling like freedom. To me, I felt that in this piece.
The imagery is masterful and fully formed within the first few lines. Enjoyable, almost comedic for a moment. The discordant nature of the imagery and the meaning I took from it was a great representation of the unease often felt when someone tries to tie their string to you.

But that's just my take. As always, well done and thoroughly enjoyable. I look forward to more.
