Sticky tape

Sticky tape

A Poem by Beccy

feeling a bit concerned about the little blue dot this morning.

The prison records show he was too young to hang,
but still he swung; then motionless after a while,
as the Sunday suits turned away, heads nodding;
metronomes, tick tocking and tongue clucking in concert.

But that’s what sticky tape is; a disguise;
and ‘I am the resurrection and the life,’
is just add on engineering that cannot hide the
trapdoor leading to the day of reckoning.

Then again, perhaps it’s just cynicism on my part,
like the man who desires what he cannot have
casts doubt when love’s ardour fails,
‘it never bothered me anyway.’ says he.

Of course, mercy may eventually stir
and we will again feed sea birds from the hand;
men’s eyes will open and see the green of grass,
all this may come to pass before the last atom fuses.

But if it doesn’t, if all that is left goes unharvested
and the ghosts that gather have their wicked way;
then true it shows, dressed or undressed,
that man was snake made manifest.

I was not expecting this at all but am not entirely surprised. These words clearly demonstrate just how versatile this poet really is and serve to reinforce many of my earlier thoughts on the matter...Neville

wow, we might have been our own serpent in the garden....tempting ourselves to do the bad thing...and we are our own worst reptilian enemies...we are the snakes, if we look into the mirror at our own hypocrisy ...we will see...the fangs....

Yes, I see parallels here with a poem of my own, 'the bishop and the drunk '... hypocrisy a nasty, vile trait, and unfortunately, just one of society's incorrigible unpleasantries!

Yes, the term ' snake in the grass' certainly applies, no matter the attire!! Wonderfully sardonic poetry Beccy!!

This is really dark and gave me a shiver Beccy.
I think in part because I fear you might be right about this particular species of 'sentient being' (misnomer?) lol
