Sparrow Song

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin
"

...

"

On the dreariest morn wild birds sing
Like heaven's angels in offering
Whether the day be cloudy or fair
Their voices fill the morning air

Their song is like a prayer they give
Who live to praise and praise to live
If God so blessed my downy friends;
Feathers unruffled by rain and wind

Who am I to growl and complain
Over some small insignificant pain
Am I not as alive as the birds
Which offer praise yet have no words

Should I not greet the rising sun
With heartfelt joy as they have done
With darkness passed, should I not sing
With love of life and spread my wing

To catch the breeze and praise my Lord;
To let my soul soar heavenward
God, give my heart the will to sing
A sweet, contrite, bold offering

When clouds above my world grow dark
Every blessing seems bare and stark
Let me remember the night will pass;
That even the vilest storm won't last

Hide me in Your grace and Word
Consider me like these little birds
You who knows when the sparrow falls
Hear my soul, when hurt, I call

When I suffer some grievous wrong
Give my heart to praise and song
That I am alive and loved by You
And let me sing as wild birds do
