Autumn Reflection

Autumn Reflection

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin

Below

The rolling hills unfurl in autumn’s scenic vista

Maples flame in bursting matchsticks across verdant fields

Distant purple mounds are spotted with bright flecks of

Color

In the dappled sunlight where muffled sparrows trill

Scalloped edges of the woodland frame the rising blue

While cotton shapes like barrel rings slide softly into view

Tumbling into tiers of silent, showy majesty

Stretching forth a wayward tendril web to touch a tree

Along the roller coaster grass in fading, bright and dull

Dismay

A million pages of the past are turned by nature’s breath

Though their stories did not last…they burn till end of day

Soft they flutter as they fall whispering to

Death

The birth of man is green like spring and supple in its hour

We must die in winter cold…a dark and lonely story

On some future prairie there bursts a brighter flower

Lord, let my fall be like the leaves who color thus their

Glory

You are welcome Fabian.
One of the most descriptive & original ways to show autumn! A much-written-about topic, you've made it all your own with fresh observations & dynamic interactions. Love the contrasts & sensory zing! I am sooooo ready for autumn! *smile* Fondly, Margie

Thank you. I tend to write more rhyme than free verse but I write the poem the way it reveals itself.. read more
